With GTA 6 scheduled to launch on November 19, players are already planning how to spend time with Rockstar’s long-awaited game. Some have reportedly booked time off work, while estimates suggest that absences related to its release could cost the US economy around $1.5 billion.
Finance expert and self-made millionaire Mark Tilbury has offered a different perspective. In a video published on October 31, he argued that GTA 6 could effectively save players money by replacing more expensive nights out.
Tilbury calculated that completing an 80-hour game would cost roughly $1.25 per hour. Including time spent exploring the open world, he said the effective cost could fall to around 50 cents per hour.
Using four hours of play each evening, Tilbury described the game as 50 nights of entertainment. He compared that with spending around $100 on each night out and concluded that buying GTA 6 could represent savings of approximately $5,000.
The calculation was presented humorously as “boy math,” a description that viewers also adopted in the comments. Some users joked that they would show the argument to their parents, while others called Tilbury a financial adviser they could finally trust. One commenter even claimed that buying four digital copies would put $20,000 “in their pocket.”
GTA 6 is also generating interest around merchandise. Resellers have reportedly been buying promotional items in Miami and listing them online at significantly higher prices. A leaked collaboration between Nike and Rockstar Games is expected to include products linked to Travis Scott’s Cactus Jack brand, including sneakers, T-shirts and hoodies. The sneakers are expected to cost $130.
