Tech entrepreneur Adam Robinson, his wife, Helen Sharp, and their children, Emma and Charlie, were among nine people killed when a private jet crashed in Palm Beach County, Florida, on Sunday, November 1. Emma was four years old and Charlie was two.
The Learjet 60 was flying from Austin, Texas, to the Bahamas when it crashed into a residential area at about 12:50 p.m. All nine people aboard died. The other passengers were the family’s nanny, Anita Maria Apellido Cetina, and friends Rachael Reed and Charmi Fehr. The pilots were identified as Jeff Gregory, 55, and Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras, 20.
Robinson founded marketing technology companies Retention.com and RB2B, and previously built email marketing company Robly, which he reportedly sold in an eight-figure deal. Before working in technology, he held finance roles at Lehman Brothers and Barclays Capital.
Air traffic control recordings captured the crew reporting ice buildup and moderate turbulence and asking to climb to a higher altitude shortly before the crash. The aircraft then descended rapidly. The National Transportation Safety Board has opened an investigation; officials have said there is evidence the plane may have begun breaking apart before impact, but the cause remains unknown.
