A Call of Duty player says their Asus gaming monitor may have prevented them from being hit after a bullet entered their home during a late-night gaming session. The player shared the account on Reddit on November 2, saying the shot passed through a wall and struck the screen behind their gaming setup.

The Reddit user, known as “antisocialnae,” said they heard loud bangs outside, realized they were not part of the game and dropped to the floor before calling 911. After speaking with the operator, they found a bullet hole in the wall and discovered that the round had hit their main monitor. They said there was no exit hole in the screen.

The display was an Asus TUF VG258QM 280Hz monitor, which the player said they bought for $280 five years ago. They wrote that it may have stopped the bullet from hitting them or damaging their PC, depending on its trajectory, and said the experience left them shaken. They had not yet turned their computer back on to check whether it still worked, but said they had two other Asus monitors.

An Asus representative replied to the Reddit post, praising the monitor’s durability and saying the company would reach out to discuss how it could “honor its sacrifice.” Asked whether the warranty covered a stray bullet, the representative said such damage would typically be treated as customer-induced damage or an “act of god,” while suggesting the unusual case could receive special consideration. No replacement has been confirmed.
