A delivery driver has returned to a Virginia Beach home to apologize after doorbell-camera footage appeared to show them throwing a package at a family’s cat. The video spread on social media and prompted concern from viewers.

The incident took place on October 25, when Opie, a 21-pound black cat, was sitting on his owner’s front porch. The Ring footage showed a driver delivering a GOFO package throwing a bag that struck the cat, then appearing to smile and take photos of the delivery.

Opie’s owner, Isabell Sump, told WAVY that the cat had not provoked the driver. She said he was relaxing on the porch when the package hit him.

After the video gained attention, the driver returned to apologize. Speaking through a translation app, the driver said cats made them uneasy and that they had come to apologize in person.

Sump questioned why the package had been thrown at Opie, saying the driver could have left it elsewhere if they were uncomfortable approaching the cat. She also raised concern about the timing, noting that black cats can be mistreated around Halloween because of superstitions.

GOFO has contacted Sump and launched an investigation into the driver’s conduct. Sump had previously said she intended to pursue criminal charges once the driver was identified. It remains unclear whether the driver will face disciplinary or legal action.
