Michael Todd, lead pastor of Transformation Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, has drawn widespread attention after delivering part of a Sunday sermon from a luxury massage chair. The service took place on November 1, and clips of the demonstration have since circulated on social media, attracting millions of views.

Todd climbed into an Osaki Champ II chair, which sells for around $3,999, and used it to make a point about comfort and faith. “You are living for Christ in a La-Z-Boy,” he told the congregation, contrasting what he called “right sitting with God” with “right standing with God.”

After reclining and switching on the chair’s massage functions, Todd spoke about people who are faithful only when it is easy. He asked how well someone could fight, protect themselves or help a person in need from a reclined position, adding that a life of righteousness should not remain “reclined.”

Todd eventually got out of the chair, using the demonstration to encourage the congregation to become more active in their faith. He is known for using unusual props to illustrate his sermons.
