Sony has begun sending notifications to PlayStation users in the US inviting them to trade in their PS5 consoles for cash through Back Market, a company that specializes in refurbished electronics. The message, dated November 2, advertises payments of up to $400.
That figure is based on previous estimates for a standard PS5 in Grade 0 condition supplied with at least two controllers. Back Market gathered those estimates between August 23 and September 22, 2026, so the advertised amount is not guaranteed.
The final offer will depend on the console’s model, storage capacity, physical condition and included accessories. Back Market will inspect the hardware before confirming its value. Owners can request an estimate through the service, and accepted trade-ins are paid in cash rather than PlayStation Store credit.
The notification appears to have been sent only to US players so far. It is not known whether Sony or Back Market will make a similar offer in other regions.
