A rare Audemars Piguet watch worth around $292,000 was returned to a store in Tokyo on November 1, three days after a man allegedly stole it. The watch was sent by courier along with a note apologizing for the robbery, according to The Japan Times.

The theft took place on October 29 in Tokyo’s Nakano Ward. The unnamed man asked to try on the watch before fleeing the store, escaping two employees who were working there at the time.

Store staff confirmed the returned item was the stolen watch by checking its serial number. Although the apology note included a name and address, employees believe the details are false. The investigation is ongoing.

CCTV footage reportedly shows the man travelling by train and taxi as he left the area after the theft. He has not been identified or caught, according to the report.
