Bethesda has named its next mainline Elder Scrolls game The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel, but the reveal offered no release window, gameplay footage or platform details. The studio showed the title and logo in a video marking 40 years of Bethesda Game Studios and said it would be some time before it shares more information.

Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier commented on the announcement on Bluesky, noting that the game was first revealed alongside Starfield in 2018. Schreier said that the original announcement was partly intended to reassure players after Bethesda announced Fallout 76, and added that Sentinel is still more than two years away.

Schreier had previously estimated during a Bloomberg Q&A in July that the game was at least two to three years from release. Based on that estimate, a 2028 launch may be the earliest possibility, though Bethesda has not announced a release date.

The Elder Scrolls VI was announced at Bethesda’s E3 2018 presentation with a short teaser of a mountainous landscape. The studio confirmed at the time that the game was in pre-production. Since then, Bethesda has released Fallout 76, Starfield and Oblivion Remastered, while offering only occasional updates on the next Elder Scrolls.

Bethesda says development on Sentinel is continuing and that the game is now the studio’s primary focus, with most of the team working on it. The studio has also said that the game is being developed on Creation Engine 3 and that internal builds are playable. Its latest announcement identified the game’s name and location, but did not provide a detailed account of its setting.
