Dothan City Schools is offering up to $180,000 a year for its next head football coach, according to a job posting published on October 28. The salary range is $150,000 to $180,000, depending on the candidate’s experience.
Dothan High School is seeking a coach with a track record of winning games, reaching the playoffs and developing championship-caliber teams. The job is a full-time, 12-month position, and the district is also offering additional salary supplements to attract offensive and defensive coordinators.
The top advertised salary is about 2.9 times Alabama’s reported average teacher salary of $62,659. First-year teachers earned a starting salary of $47,600 during the 2025-26 school year, according to the figures cited in the source report.
The search follows former coach Jed Kennedy’s resignation in September after the team began the season 2-3. Kennedy finished with a 29-19 record, and Dothan ended its 2026 regular season at 3-7.
According to Yahoo Sports, the district hopes to have a new coach in place by late February 2027.
