Almost half of the games released on Steam in October 2026 disclosed the use of AI-generated content, according to an analysis of approximately 63,600 titles released since January 2024. The study was conducted by Reddit user u/ploz using publicly available Steam data.

Valve introduced mandatory AI disclosures in January 2024, when only 1.7% of new releases included one. The proportion rose to 13.2% across 2024 and 24% in 2025. In 2026, it reached 40.1% so far, with October setting the highest monthly figure in the analysis at 49.9%.

AI disclosures were more common among smaller games. In 2026, 47% of titles with fewer than 10 Steam reviews disclosed AI use, compared with 14% of games that had at least 1,000 reviews.

Developers releasing games more frequently were also more likely to report AI use. Teams or individuals responsible for at least 10 releases in 2026 disclosed AI in 68% of their games, while the figure was 37% among developers with a single release.

Artwork was the most frequently reported use, appearing in 63% of disclosures. Text and translations accounted for 30%, followed by store pages and marketing materials at 26%, music at 21%, and code at 16%. AI-generated voices appeared in 7% of disclosures, while 3% of games reported using AI to generate content during gameplay.

The figures do not represent every Steam game using AI, since the system depends on developers reporting their use. Valve also revised its disclosure requirements in January 2026 to focus on AI-generated content that players can see or hear, rather than tools used solely behind the scenes during development.
